The Liz List - May 31, 2019
I hope everyone had a wonderful week! Four day work weeks are always a welcome reprieve, so hopefully you enjoyed your Monday off. It was an exciting week at our house because the Texas Legislature adjourned Sine Die (i.e. Session is over ) on Monday which means it’s the end of our busy season. 🎉 Historically speaking, the summer following a legislative session is a slow period for us since everyone in our industry checks out for some down time after the 6 months of stressful, long hours.
Over the past week my husband and I have been discussing our travel plans for the summer. Ordinarily we would already have our plans figured out by now, but things are (of course) a little more complicated now that we’ve got a baby in tow. We’re in the thick of sleep training right now, so we don’t want to take her away from that at the moment. Plus, we’re still waiting on her passport which limits our options for the time being. However, getting Kate used to traveling at an early age is very important to us, so we’re determined to get a few things on the books soon!
Here’s what I’ve been into this week.
FASHION: One thing I’m really loving in fashion lately are the shoe trends. While I don’t LOVE the super chunky sneakers, I do love the shift towards comfort and away from sky-high, pointy toed heels.
CELEBRITY HOME TOUR: Jessica Alba’s new home is featured in this month’s Architectural Digest, and I can’t get enough. More pictures please! That big backyard with that view! The master bathroom. SWOON. From the fabrics to the color scheme…. I just love how earthy and natural everything looks. Such a relaxing - yet still elevated - environment. That’s the direction I want to take for our next home (whenever that may be), so I’ve flagged this article for future design inspiration.
PHILANTHROPY: Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie just pledged to give away half of her $37 billion fortune. I enjoyed reading her letter about her decision. Giving is so important! I love this effort by Warren Buffet and always pay attention to who signs his pledge!
HOLLYWOOD: I’ve always closely associated Seth Rogen with the stoner, funny guys he plays in movies. Apparently that’s not the full picture! This profile in GQ sheds light on how he’s becoming a power player in Hollywood.
TECHNOLOGY: A $50,000 champagne cooler?! Apparently so! V. boujee.
HOME DECOR: For obvious reasons, I’ve been paying closer attention to nursery design lately. Accordingly, I was thrilled to see Gray Malin’s nursery reveal in this month’s House Beautiful. It was designed by Dallas designer Amy Berry.
TRAVEL: I’ve been to Paris several times and to the south of France once. I really need to explore the rest of the country, so I flagged this Conde Naste round up highlighting the 10 best day trips to take in France.
MUSIC: My brother works in the music industry and my sister-in-law is a signer/songwriter, so I pay attention to music news. Loved reading this bit of news from Rolling Stone magazine that the Rolling Stones (the band) have voluntarily agreed to give up their songwriting credits for The Verve’s song Bittersweet Symphony (one of my all time faves, btw). This was the right thing to do! Good for Mick.
SKINCARE: One of my favorite estheticians Renee Rouleau had an interesting blog post this week about eye creams and what you need to know about them and how to best use them. It’s full of a lot of good info, so I wanted to share! If you’re into skincare, this piece is for you!
PRODUCTIVITY: As someone who works from home (and just had a baby!) this piece really resonated with me. I was just telling myself the other day that if I’m going to be my most productive, I need to wake up a little earlier! “The Unbalanced Balance of Working from Home…” 🙌🏻 Such a spot on title! Here’s to setting my alarm an hour earlier! 🥂
Have a great weekend!
