Before and After: Upstairs Office and Ladies Lounge
I’ve got a fun before and after reveal today… this time my upstairs office space and “ladies lounge”! 🥳
I sometimes refer to it as the ladies lounge just because it’s by far the most girly, glam space in the house. Plus, it has the most perfect seating arrangement to enjoy a cocktail with my friends. Of course I’ve yet to do so, but one day in my post-quarantine life I will! 😂
Since it’s upstairs and really my personal space, I wanted to have a little fun with it (with some help from the ladies at Heather Scott Home & Design).
The Frank Sinatra mugshot photograph is a $40 poster from Amazon that we had framed. I knew I wanted this print as the main artwork in the space as soon as I saw a similar piece in the lobby of Hotel Zaza in Houston. I love it because it reminds me that sometimes in life… sh*t happens. You can always bounce back! Plus, I’m a big Frank fan, and he reminds me of my grandfather.
Check out the "before” photo from the original listing below. 👇🏻
And below is what the space looks like now, from the exact same angle as above.
We updated the staircase railings, swapped out the ceiling fan for a gold chandelier, painted, replaced the carpet with wood flooring, and closed in the “Juliet” balcony along the back wall. While we lost some natural light when we removed the balcony, we gained the ability to have a better furniture lay out. Plus, now the sound doesn’t carry throughout the house as easily and wake up guests or more importantly… sleeping babies.
I store all my family photographs in those white side tables, and the large wooden chest in the far back corner of the space (next to the stairs) serves as our linen closet since there’s not one built-in anywhere upstairs.
I only have an “in progress” photo of the desk above, not a full before shot, unfortunately. But the built-in corner desk you see here is also a new addition to the space. It definitely makes the room MUCH more functional plus adds resale value.
The wallpaper at the desk is a grasscloth from Schumacher. It’s their “Feather Bloom” print in the Venetian Pink colorway. You can shop it here.
I do all my work from this desk, which is super convenient because Kate’s nursery is right off of this room. When she’s napping, I immediately know when she’s awake. 😊
In fact, all 3 guest bedrooms are located directly off of this room. It gets a lot of foot traffic!
Before it was an awkward space without a real purpose. Now it’s a functional, glamorous bonus space where I can get work done… and enjoy a cocktail or two with the ladies. 🥂
