A Recap of Our Baby Showers
A couple weeks ago on March 16th, David and I got together with some of our closest friends in Austin to celebrate the impending arrival of Baby Girl White at our third (and final!) baby shower. Yes, I know what you might be thinking. Three is sort of a lot in some minds… but not in mine! What can I say? I love a party! 🥳
Besides, our first baby seemed like a good reason to go all out. Not that I need an excuse. 💁🏻
However, before I dive in with an overview of the Austin event (which is what you see pictured in this post), I first want to touch on my other two showers. Both were more traditional with an all female guest list and a set section in the “program” to open gifts in front of the guests. And both were completely perfect in every way.
It kills me that I don’t have any pictures here to prove it, but trust me, they were absolutely gorgeous! I wish I’d been able to start the blog a little sooner so I could have dedicated a post to each one, but alas, I wasn’t able to get all my ducks in a row in time. You’ll just have to settle with a quick recap.
I should mention that I didn’t provide too much direction to the hostesses for any of my showers. I’m not really one for themes (they’re not my thing, but you do you!), so I just told all three groups to go in the general direction of “Garden Party”. Part of the fun was seeing how each group interpreted that small piece of guidance and how they ran with it.
Each shower had a bit of a different twist on the direction, but all three were decidedly garden party vibes.
I also told everyone not to feel like they needed to shy away from the color pink. I know gender neutral is all the rage these days, but I decided to buck that trend and embrace the pink. 💞
Finally, the only “rule” I had was no games. I’m sure there are some cute shower games out there, but I wanted to eliminate even the slightest possibility that I’d have to guess which candy bar variety was melted in that diaper! 🙅🏻
My first shower took place on February 23rd in Kingwood, Texas (where I grew up) and was held for my mom’s side of the family + a few close and very special friends from childhood. I drove down and back from Austin in the same day with my mom, who kept me company in the car. The shower was hosted by my Aunt Lisa and two cousins - Liza & Abby - and was completely perfect in every way. The cool thing about this shower is that I could really see how each of my hostesses contributed to the event since they each left their mark on the event.
Liza is a fabulous cook (she actually owns and runs her own cooking business!) and has such a knack for food presentation. Here’s a picture of the cheese board she set up! I mean… DROOL. 😋 And Abby is alllll about a good aesthetic. Knowing her, she ensured the shower stayed within the parameters of the aesthetic she had in her mind. Which is perfect because not only does she know my taste, she has good taste herself. 👌🏻
And my Aunt Lisa worked herself to the bone making sure her house was ready in time for the big day. Unfortunately, her home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey, so she and my uncle had recently completed a major renovation with all sorts of little odds and ends left to finish up. You never would have known it. The house looked STUN-NING and perfectly set up for the occasion. Somehow, she pulled it all together in time! I’m telling you it sparkled. ✨
They did a fabulous job, and I walked away feeling so celebrated. ☺️
My second shower took place the following weekend on March 2nd and was equally as fabulous as the first. My stepmom Karen was the hostess and put together the sweetest luncheon for my dad’s side of the family (who drove in from Boerne) + David’s mom and some of his relatives who made the trip down from Dallas to celebrate with us. It was held at my dad’s (super badass) ranch, which is in the hill country right outside of Austin near Blanco.
Again, it was also garden party vibes, but had what I would describe as a relaxed, hill country casual twist. The flower arrangements were spot on - pink roses, lilies, and cherry blossom branches mixed with yellow craspedia balls and lots of gorgeous greenery. The lunch table was set with my late grandfather’s mother’s china, which is the desert rose pattern - a perfect choice for the occasion!
Karen made a delicious salad, bathtub spaghetti (CARBS 🙌🏻), garlic bread (MORE CARBS 🙌🏻🙌🏻), and a chocolate custard dish for desert (which was incredible). Plus I ate my weight in cheese before lunch was even served. I drove home from that shower with a full heart and a full belly.
Okay… and finally, I’ll wrap things up here with a very quick summary of the Austin shower. I’ve rambled long enough, so I won’t use too many words and will just let all these pictures do the talking as far as decorations are concerned. 😉
All I really want to say is that I knew I wanted one of my showers to celebrate David as well. I love that baby showers aren’t just for women anymore and that guys are getting in on the action. After all, it’s his baby too! It’s going to be the two of us raising this tiny little human, so it’s only fitting that the two of us celebrate together - surrounded by the people in our lives who will be there to support us on our parenting journey.
Speaking of our supporters, thanks to everyone reading this who attended our little shindig. We appreciate it more than you know.
Your dad and I can’t wait to meet you, little one! You are already so loved. 🥰
