The Liz List - May 1, 2020
A spritz in hand, my toes in the sand. Ahhh. What good times those were. I’d give anything to go back. Or heck… even to know when I could theoretically go back.
Not gonna lie… the uncertainty surrounding travel is tough for me. Traveling brings me so much joy and having a trip to look forward to really helps keep me going mentally. But then I think of others out there who are worried about their next meal or paycheck and of course my itch to escape the house pales in comparison to the actual suffering so many are going through right now. What a lesson in gratitude this quarantine has been for me. ❤️
Since it’s been a while… I had planned on doing a little life update in this post, but I started to type and apparently have a lot to say so I’m saving that update for a separate post. I’ll publish it sometime next week. My home office reveal is coming next week too, so stay tuned for that. It feels so good to be back on the blog. 🤗
One fun thing… Kate’s nursery was featured in this “compact spaces” round up on Houzz.com. We get so much function out of this little nook, so don’t overlook the ones in your space. The article is full of all sorts of ideas on what to do with them.
PRODUCT OF THE WEEK… this loungewear poncho top and matching shorts from Lou & Grey. I am OBSESSED. Literally the softest thing I’ve ever owned, and the shorts are the perfect length. You can shop their entire “Signaturesoft” line here. If you have to choose - go with the shorts. There are more color and size options.
In the meantime, here’s this week’s Liz List…
MENTAL HEALTH: Over the weekend an Instagram follower sent me this podcast episode by Brené Brown in which she discusses “comparative suffering” and other quarantine-relevant mental health topics. She starts talking comparative suffering - and the shame spiral that can result from it - at around the 15 minute mark. I don’t think this topic is discussed enough, so I wanted to share it here for anyone who needs to hear it. Let’s honor our own struggles! 🙌
HOME TOUR 1: Here’s a pretty, modern Spanish revival remodel. Lots of bold tile choices, but it’s still clean and crisp and authentic to the style of the home. 💙
HOME TOUR 2: I loved peeking inside Nate Berkus’ New York City townhouse. I especially love this trend I’m seeing of bolder marble choices. So eye catching! If you have time, definitely watch the video of Nate and his partner giving a tour. They’re so funny and relatable! 🏙️
HOME TOUR 3: Ok last one for today… promise. Here is James Van Der Beek’s Beverly Hills home he shares with his gorgeous wife and five children. While it isn’t quite my style, it is lovely and I can’t get over how freakin’ beautiful this family is! 😍
COOKING: If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I’ve done a LOT of cooking during quarantine. So much so, that I went looking for new cookbooks so I can get some fresh recipe ideas. I just bought this one called “Eat What You Want” by Gaby Dalkin (from What’s Gaby Cooking fame) and then this one titled “100 Days of Real Food”. I’ll give updates on how I like them both in my stories! 👩🏻🍳
RECIPE: Chipotle shared their guacamole recipe! 🚨 You can find it here. 🥑
POP CULTURE: Why we should embrace our pop culture pleasures and stop feeling “guilty” about it. 💯
CELEBRITY: Kanye West is the latest celebrity to reach billionaire status. Speaking of billionaires… his sister-in-law Kylie just dropped $36.5 million on this new mansion. Can’t wait to see what she does with the place. 💰
ALIENS: The Pentagon released some UFO videos for the record this week. Blink-182 is involved. Yes, really. 👽
IN THE NEWS: Texas is slowly and carefully phasing out quarantine life… starting today. Here’s what you need to know about the new guidelines. If things go well, more businesses will be able to open in mid-May. 👏🏻
That’s it for this week! Enjoy your weekend! 🥂
