The Liz List - August 9, 2019
How is it already August?! I can’t believe summer is almost over. It flew by for me.
By the time you’re reading this, we’re probably already headed home to Austin, but this week David and I have been in Nashville with Kate visiting my brother and sister-in-law. David had a work conference there, so it worked out perfectly for us to fly up and spend a few days hanging out. They haven’t seen Kate since she was about a week old, so she’s changed quite a bit since then! We always have the best time with them, and I wish they lived closer. They’re both musicians though, so Nashville is their base and I don’t see that changing anytime soon!
One other thing I wanted to update y’all on is our dog Charles’ health. Every time I post about him on Instagram at least one person asks me how he’s doing. In case you missed it, he’s got a cancerous tumor in his bladder. We opted against chemo, but he is on meds. Last week we took him in to get checked and unfortunately the tumor has grown. The vet said she expects he’ll be around another 3-6 months. 😢 Obviously this is sad news, but the good news is he’s already beaten the life expectancy of this diagnosis. It’s been a little over a year since he was diagnosed, whereas the life expectancy for bladder cancer in dogs is only about 250 days. We’re just grateful we’ve had this long with him!
And now as Andy Cohen would say…. RIGHT TURN ALERT. Here’s what I’ve been into this week:
CURRENTLY READING: Right now I’m in the middle of reading two books - Dale Carnegie’s “How to Stop Worrying and Starting Living” (all about methods to conquer worry, and it’s GREAT and really helpful but definitely a bit slow!) and Laura Lynne Jackson’s ”Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe” which is about how loved ones who have passed communicate with us from the other side. Laura’s a psychic medium and the book is full of interesting anecdotes plus gives insight on “signs” from the other side… what they are, how to recognize them, etc. I’m SURE this sounds a little out there for some of y’all, but if you’re into this kind of thing I highly recommend reading it. It’s been great! And here’s a fun fact I’ll throw in… I’ve been considering seeing a medium for about 6 months now, but I’m too chicken! I’ve got two references from friends who have done it (one in Dallas and one in Houston) and hearing their stories was SO wild. Maybe one of these days I’ll work up the courage to schedule an appointment! My friends know I’m SUPER into supernatural stuff and believe in ghosts and spirits and psychics and signs…. and now y’all know too! 😂 I’ve personally experienced too much NOT to believe! And for the record, I don’t feel like this conflicts with my Christian faith, though I’m sure my Southern Baptist Sunday School teachers would firmly disagree! 😬
MOTHERHOOD: Repeat after me: “Good for her, not for me.” This is my motherhood mantra and it’s one I hope all moms commit to adhering to! Thank you Amy Poehler for this gem.
CELEBRITY: I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge Kanye fan. He rarely does interviews, so I was super excited when I found out he was on the cover of this month’s Forbes Magazine (we subscribe to it). Here’s the link to the article if you’re interested. For the record, he’s #3 on this year’s Forbes Celebrity 100 list with an estimated pretax income of $150 million. Only his nemesis Taylor Swift (at $185 million) and sister-in-law Kylie Jenner (at $170 million) earned more. One more interesting tidbit I learned from the article…. after the backlash he received in 2009 when he interrupted Taylor Swift on stage at the VMA’s, he cancelled his planned area tour with Lady Gaga and instead moved to Italy to intern with Fendi. Guess that fashion internship is paying off!
COCKTAILS: Y’all know I love a good cocktail. Especially when it’s made with bubbly. If you’re bored with your current mixed drinks, here’s an article that compiles some yummy looking cocktail recipes all containing prosecco.
SHOPPING: I thought this under $30 glassware roundup from Poosh was full of fabulous Kourtney-approved finds. I’ve shared before that her kitchen was a big inspiration for our kitchen remodel. If you are into modern lines like me, you’ll love her list of affordable glasses.
HOME TOUR: Wouldn’t be a proper Liz List without featuring a fabulous home tour. This time from right here in Austin. CW star Jensen Ackles (and here is where I must admit I had no idea who he was! I’m getting old!) recently let Architectural Digest inside his home for a photoshoot and boy am I glad he did. Gorgeous! I’m a sucker for traditional Texas limestone, and this home has plenty. If I had to pick a favorite feature, it would be that 2-story screened-in back porch with the long table and french bistro chairs. STUN-NING. But also that backyard! A stretch goal of mine is to have a home on Lake Austin. You just can’t beat the views.
That’s all for this week!
