The Liz List - November 1, 2019
Welcome to November, everyone! It’s officially my birthday month! 🥳 Early this morning David and I caught a flight to New York City. My husband’s choice… he loves it! It’s just the two of us, and we’ll be coming back on Tuesday. 🍎 We opted not to take Kate with us this trip. To be honest, I can barely stand to schlep myself around NYC, much less a baby + all the accessories they require. Not to mention, it will be nice to enjoy a long weekend away with just my husband. I’ll miss her so much (this will be our longest time away from her yet), but I know she’s in great hands! 👶🏻
Yesterday afternoon my grandmother and aunt arrived from Houston. They’re staying at our house with my mom to take care of Kate for us. They’ve been looking forward to it for weeks! And lucky for them, their arrival fell right on Halloween. Last night we dressed Miss Kate up like Wonder Woman and passed out candy on the porch to all the cute neighborhood kids. 🎃
The best part about this trip to the City? We didn’t make a single plan! Typically, I put together full travel itineraries in advance, but life has been too crazy lately, so I dropped the planning off my to do list (at my husband’s encouragement). I’m pretty proud of myself for being able to let that go. Quite a victory for a Type A personality! 🏆 This will be my third trip to the city, and I’m hoping it will be my favorite experience yet. In the past, the city has made me feel overwhelmed. 😬 This time, however, we’re staying in a nice hotel near Central Park (YAY for points!), so I have to imagine I’ll have a more enjoyable experience. I’ll be sure to share a room tour on my Instagram stories, so stay tuned for that. 🏙️
Without further ado, here’s what I’ve been into this week:
PRODUCT OF THE WEEK: This cookbook! 💯 My friend Hillary told me about it. It’s called “Cook Once, Eat All Week: 26 Weeks of Healthy, Affordable Meal Prep to Preserve Your Time & Sanity”. As a new mom who’s struggling to consistently put a healthy dinner on the table, I love the concept of this cookbook. I used it for the first time this week, and it’s been a game changing time saver.
RECIPE: I found the mother load of recipe round ups this week. 😱 Here’s a google doc full of famous recipes from your favorite restaurant chains, courtesy of the employees who used to work there, via Reddit.
TECHNOLOGY: This article by Thomas on the Gal Meets Glam blog convinced me to upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro this week. It’s a very helpful summary of the improved camera capabilities if you’re considering an upgrade yourself!
MOTHERHOOD: A helpful article from Feeding Littles on how (and why it’s good!) to stress less about feeding sugar to your kids.
TRAVEL: 🚨 Austin will have a direct flight to Paris next May! 🚨 It’s about time my city is getting the respect it deserves! We’re the 11th largest city in the United States! It’s so wild to me that we don’t already have more international direct flights.
CULTURE: Specifically, cancel culture. Trevor Noah drops serious words of WISDOM on cancel culture in his interview with The Breakfast Club last week. His remarks on this topic start around the 33:30 mark. The entire interview is super interesting if you have time to kill this weekend. Glad notable people are starting to push back on this new trend. Intent matters, and as a society, we need to make room for redemption.
FASHION: Louis Vuitton’s parent company (LVMH) submitted a bid to purchase Tiffany & Co for $14.5 billion.
CELEBRITY: Curious how your favorite celebs dressed for Halloween? Here’s a celebrity costume round up.
CELEBRITY: Apple Beats 1 finally dropped their much anticipated Kanye West interview last weekend. He released his latest album on Friday, and while it’s getting mixed reviews, I LOVE it. The entire interview is 2 hours (which my husband and I watched on Monday and enjoyed), but I realize probably none of you will have the time to watch in full. Accordingly, here’s a summary of the juiciest nuggets! 😜
JUST FOR FUN: The results are in! Here are the most frequently used emojis in the world. Glad to see we love all love to laugh. There’s hope for us yet! 😂
Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Liz
